A Place to Share

Hi! My name is Victoria "Tori" Kunter. I go by retnuk in the chat room. I don't have any pictures today, so you're just gettin' a story. On May 18, 1997 my friend Heather and I were going to Newton, Kansas (I think) from Hastings, NE to get her a place to live for the summer. She was driving down and asked me to go with her. So on Sunday morning she picked me up at 5:50am at my dormatory and we took off toward KS. At approximately 6:00am, a man fell asleep at the wheel and ran into us head on. He was going 70mph and we were going 60mph. I fortunately or unfortunately (depending on who you talk to) remember the accident. I am truly blessed and protected by God to be here today. No one in the accident died, we are all just injured. Some of us admit it more than others. I am the only one who recognized the fact I have a brain injury and is doing something about it. Many people say, "this year must have been so long for you." I always say,"Not really, I don't remember most of it." Things are going pretty well now. I have a part time job, just bought a new car (after a lot of desensitization), and enjoy the numerous benefits of physical therapy. I also still have occupational and vocational therapies at the Brain Injury Recovery Program (B.I.R.P.) in Fort Collins, CO. I hope to graduate from the program soon. I think it is an amazing blessing that BIRP happens to be in my home town. I wish and pray that all towns have a BIRP. It has been a life saver. Really. Well I think I'm finished for now.
